County to renew Beaver Hill permit

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Coos County is proposing is to renew an existing solid waste disposal site permit for the Beaver Hill disposal site initially issued in 1987.

The facility receives municipal solid waste and incinerates the waste materials into combustion ash. The ash is tested to determine if it is a hazardous waste. If the ash is not hazardous, it is then disposed of in an onsite lined ash cell.

The facility also accepts specific materials for recycling, including but not limited to metals, paper and cardboard, used oil, glass, and plastics. Environmental monitoring of leachate, groundwater, and surface water is a continuing requirement of the solid waste permit.

DEQ is inviting public comment on the proposed permitting action. During the comment period the public is invited to make comments related to specific conditions within the proposed permit.

Comments are due March 9, 2010, and may be sent to Fran Holman, Permit Coordinator Western Region 750 Front St. NE, Suite 120 Salem, OR 97301. Comments may also be sent via email toholman.fran@deq.state.or.us
