Is it Time for Business License Fees?
I suppose what I find so abhorrent about a proposed transient room tax is that all of the businesses in town are to benefit from what will be imposed on two.
I think it sad that a group of people, in this case business owners, would impose on someone else’s business what they are unwilling themselves to do, which is to collect a tax to be used to promote Coquille. In my last editorial I offered that one way of avoiding a tax would be for the Coquille Chamber of Commerce, Coquille Merchants Association and Operation Coquille (same people, three organizations give them three voices) to assess their members a fee to be used to promote the area. Maybe there is another solution.
Could it be time for the City of Coquille to impose an annual business license fee - - or isn’t what’s good for one good for all?
