Crawfish, new Gay 90s tradition?

For those that missed the opportunity to “Pinch Tails and Suck Heads” during Lakeside’s Crawfish Festival held earlier this month, Fat Tuesday’s Mardi Gras Grill will import about 400 pounds of the southern delicacy from Louisiana for the third Gay 90s Celebration in a row.

Crawfish were the main ingredient for Lakeside’s very first and very successful Crawfish Festival held earlier this month, but this year’s Gay 90s Celebration will mark the third year food savvy Coquillians will have been enjoying the tasty freshwater crustaceans.

For those that missed the opportunity to “Pinch Tails and Suck Heads” during Lakeside’s Crawfish Festival, Fat Tuesday’s Mardi Gras Grill is importing about 400 pounds of the southern delicacy from Louisiana for their Gay 90’s Third Annual Crawfish Boil.

According to Fat Tuesday’s Owner Teresa Reaves, the crawfish boil is classic Cajun including traditional spices, red potatoes, corn on the cob and andouille sausage. The food has proven to be a hit the past two years.

“It’s been a lot of fun the past two years so we’re bringing it back this year with a slight change,” Fat Tuesday’s Owner Teresa Reaves told CCN. “We’re having the beer garden again, and we’re also having live music. I’m really excited.

Fat Tuesday’s has booked the Etouffee Band led by fiddler Kelly Thibodeaux of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Reaves said.

According to the band’s website, Etouffee combines red hot fiddle, shufflin' rhythm and blues, and kickin' southern rock to create a sound known as swamp rock. Etouffee has appeared with such notables as Buckwheat Zydeco, C.J. Chenier, Joe Louis Walker, Sonny Landreth, John Hammond, Jr., Elvin Bishop, The Marshall Tucker Band, Joe Houston, Charlie Musselwhite, Lonnie Brooks, Henry Vestine, Curtis Salgado, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Diamond Rio and Savoy Brown.

The festivities get underway at Fat Tuesday’s at noon right after the Gay 90s Parade.
